London - Barbados - Day 1

It had been a long winded preparation for this trip. As we were travelling amid covid restrictions we had to get our PCR fit to fly tests done 48 hours before the flight. Deepika had managed to find a PCR test for under £35 in a drive through near Heathrow. We got the tests done on Friday afternoon and we had all tested negative.

We had to fill out a lot of forms and download the Verifly app and put the details on to it and get a green badge before you can board the aircraft. It was all pretty straight forward and we were all well prepared to leave for Gatwick at 10am from our home.

We reached the airport well in time (although it was a long 52 mile drive). We parked our car at the Purple car park, dropped off our keys and took the bus to the airport. There was no traffic as such and we were done with our security check in under 10 mins. We then went up to the food court and had some snack and coffee.

We boarded the plane on time and the departure was on time as well. We had got 4 adjacent seats in the middle aisle. Food was served and we watched a couple of movies. We hardly slept for an hour. When we landed it was about 5pm in the afternoon in Barbados.

To our surprise our PCR tests were not accepted at the airport and we were asked to take a rapid antigen test over there. Although we were not too happy about the whole thing, the process took another 15mins and we all tested negative again! We did not have to pay for the tests, which was a relief. But we could see that the people over here were petrified of covid and the mask rule was implemented rather strictly.

We booked a cab from the airport the charges were $42 ( 2 BBD = 1 USD ) I had to use the ATM to withdraw some cash and the ATM charged me $11 for using it.

We reached our hotel and checked in. It was fairly dark when we reached, so we just put our bags in the room and came down to have some food. We had a fish curry and chicken fried rice for dinner. We went back up to our Room 507 and everyone dozed off.
