Greece - Kafelonia - Melissani - Day 2
We got up a bit late today. Went to have breakfast downstairs. There were plenty of options, however Niki and Nimi did not find it much appealing. So after coming back from the breakfast area, we cooked some Maggi for the kids.
We then went for a walk near our resort, to get a feel of the area and see the mini supermarket near by.
We did not get much stuff just some onions and crisps.
It was about noon when we were all ready to go out. Got our stuff in the car and set course for Melissani Caves. They were 40kms away from our resort and it would take us about an hour.
It was a very hilly drive. We must have crossed a couple of mountains on our way.
The tickets to the place were €6 for adults and €4 for kids. We went in and there was a boat waiting for us. We got on the boat and took a small boat ride inside the caves. The view inside the caves was stunning. The water as turquoise blue and the ambience was mesmerising.
The caves have been here for 5000 years. The temperature is 15 degrees throughout the year. The acoustics inside the caves as amazing. The water was so clear that we could see the bottom of the lake. There were some underground tunnels as well.
The lighting inside the caves was also great. After completing our boat ride we went to the shop outside and bought some souvenirs. After that we decided to drive to Antisamoa beach. It was only 15 mins away from the caves.
The beach was mostly empty at this time and only one restaurant was open. The kids were hungry so we stopped to have some food.
The beach was stunning and the water colours were fantastic blue. The kids enjoyed playing with the pebbles. Although from afar it looks like sandy beaches, on a closer look they are all white pebbles. They give the beach a fantastic look from up above the mountains.
We spent some tie sitting at the beach. The waves suddenly gathered pace and it was rough within seconds. We decided to leave.
On our way back we stopped at Lidl, to do some grocery shopping. We got enough stuff to last us the week.
Our room was all clean and tidy when we reached back to the hotel. We cooked rice, daal and potato fries for dinner. We all ate loads. After dinner we all came down to the lounge area. We got our wine and we all sat on the sofa and watched a couple of episodes of Friends.
Niki dozed off and I had to carry her to the room. We all slept as we were exhausted!
