Portugal - Marfa - Obidos - Day 6

After having breakfast, we sat at the lounge area in the hotel and decided where to go today. We did not want to spend the day at the hotel. There were a couple of places that we could visit. Deepika did not want to the ids to go into the water today so we decided to travel inlands.

The places on our plan today were Mafra and Obidos. Mafra was about 40kms from Lisbon and Obidos was about 80kms away. We planned our journey to visit Mafra first and then go to Obidos.

The Royal Palace at Mafra

We reached Mafra at about 11:30am. The place was famous for the royal palace, which is supposed to have bankrupted the country. It was a Sunday so we got free parking everywhere. We walked through the Mafra city center and took some pictures of the palace. But other than that there was nothing much to do there, so we moved on to Obidos.

Our pit stop at Santuário do Senhor Jesus da Pedra

We took to the tool roads, so the drive was easy. The toll was €4.85 each way. On reaching Obidos we spotted a cathedral. We stopped there for a bit. We also spotted a massive farm of pears. We stopped there and even managed to get our hands on some tasty fruits.

Old Roman aquaduct built into the castle.

After that we made our way to the Obidos castle. The town was very small, probably 1 mile in radius, so everything was very close by. We found a free parking space and then set on foot into the castle.

The castle was small but very well maintained. There ware a lot of shops over there and the walk through the market place was very nice. We even managed to climb up to the top of the castle walls and walk along the top for a bit.

A walk at the top of the castle walls

We did not forget to drink the famous Oppidum Ginja de Óbidos. It was a liqueur made from berries and usually drunk from a chocolate cup. We had a couple of those as we were walking through the castle market. The shots were €1 each!

The place was very nice and we were happy that we decided to drive up here. We left Obidos at about 3:30pm and were back in the hotel before 5pm. once back at the hotel, we took some rest in our room. In the evening we went out for our last dinner in Lisbon. Me and Nimi had the kebabs from Ali Baba, while Niki and Deepika had the daal and roti from Sree Ram restaurant.

We were too tired to do the packing at the night. We decided to do the packing early in the morning tomorrow. We watch The Final Call on the laptop before going to bed.
