Day 3 - Washington DC
After a good nights rest, we all were up and active by 7am.
Deepika started looking for places to have breakfast and she found a very nice diner nearby called Van Dorn Diner. We drove there and ordered omelette and pancakes. We were full from the food and took our time coming out of the diner.
There was a superstore called Safeway next to the diner and we spent time inside there. It was very big and much better than the other supermart we visited yesterday. We had decided to start a bit late today as it was going to be very hot and we did not have much to cover today.
We bought some shower gels and snacks from Safeway and came back to our hotel. All of took a shower and then we got ready for our second day of site seeing at Washington.
We left for Arlington Cemetery, Deepika drove us there. We parked our car inside the car park. The rates were $3 per hour. We had the option of taking the tram, but it was a lovely warm day and we just wanted to walk about and spend some time before heading out. The tram would have cost us $19.50 per adult and $10.75 per child.
We started walking towards Arlington House and clicked a lot of pictures on the way. It was a lovely day and the we enjoyed our walk up the hill. We sat down at the top and soaked in the view of Washington from the top. The view of the Pentagon, Monument, Lincoln Memorial in one picture was spectacular.
After spending over 2 hours there, we started our descend and got out of there. We drove straight to Capitol Building. It was a short 15 mins drive. We tried to find a parking place, but this time the prices were even more exorbitant. $13 for each hour. So we decided to be brave and try out street parking instead. We found a parking spot literally outside the same parking. I was able to enter the details of the car and pay for 2 hours (which was the maximum) and it cost me just $5. We were very chuffed about it.
We then walked to the nearest McDonalds as the kids were getting hungry and wanted something to eat. We enjoyed our meal over there. After having our food we headed out for Capitol Building.
We took some pictures and it was wonderful to spend some time there. After we finished touring the Capitol Building gardens we headed back to our car. We still had some time left before the parking ran out, so we found a cool spot to sit down and relax.
We then drove back to our hotel. It took us about 40 mins as we had to drive through peak hour traffic. We filled our car up with petrol. It cost us about $35 for 10 gallons. After filling up the fuel we decided to head back to Safeway superstore and get some drinks.
On reaching our hotel we took some rest and enjoyed our margaritas. After all of us were well rested, we decided to go across the road to Chipotle and have some dinner. We order one chicken burrito bowl and that was enough for all of us to have a small nibble before going to bed.
The day had been a very nice and warm one. We have loved every bit of our stay in Washington. We have a long drive ahead tomorrow. So we packed up as much as we could so that we can make an early start tomorrow.
